The Center for Biosecurity and the Center for Transatlantic Relations of JHU Submit Joint Comments on the European Commission’s Green Paper on Bio-preparedness The European Commission’s (EC) Green Paper on Bio-preparedness is an effort by the European Union to gain input from public and private sector stakeholders in Europe and elsewhere on more than 30 bio-preparedness policy issues, including, but not limited to threat assessments, biosafety, international cooperation, disease surveillance, and development and stockpiling of medicines and vaccines. On September 10, 2007, in Washington, DC, the Center for Biosecurity and the Center for Transatlantic Relations of JHU hosted Isabelle Benoliel from the EC's Health & Consumer Protection Directorate-General for a widely-attended public session to discuss the Green Paper. Subsequently, the two Centers submitted joint comments to addressing biosafety, bio-threat assessments, international cooperation, and medicine and vaccine development. Our comments were informed greatly by the biosecurity efforts in the U.S. over the past six years.
