David Hoffman Mr. Hoffman is Contributing Editor at the Washington Post and has been a journalist for 30 years. He is the 2010 Pulitzer-winning author for general nonfiction for his latest book, The Dead Hand: The Untold Story of the Cold War Arms Race and Its Dangerous Legacy. He is also author of The Oligarchs: Wealth and Power in the New Russia (PublicAffairs, 2002), which is based on his experiences serving as the Washington Post’s Moscow Bureau Chief from 1995 to 2001. Mr. Hoffman returned to Washington from Moscow in 2001, serving first as Foreign Editor and then as Assistant Managing Editor for Foreign News, managing the Post’s foreign service, until 2009. Prior to serving as Moscow Bureau Chief, Mr. Hoffman served as Jerusalem correspondent, covering the Oslo peace accords, and was a diplomatic correspondent at the time the Soviet Union collapsed. Mr. Hoffman also covered the George H. W. Bush presidency. He joined the Washington Post in 1982 and covered the Reagan campaign and presidency, during which he reported on the major U.S.-Soviet summits of the Reagan years, including Geneva and Reykjavik, as well as domestic policy and politics.
