Kevin Yeskey

Dr. Yeskey is the Director of the Office of Preparedness and Emergency Operations and Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). He is an Associate Professor and the former Director of the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), School of Medicine.

He has held a variety of disaster-related positions while on active duty with the U.S. Public Health Service. He served as the Senior Medical Policy Advisor in the Response Division, FEMA. He was the Director of the Office of Emergency Response for the Department of Health and Human Services. Dr. Yeskey was assigned to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) between 1999 and 2002. During that time, he was Director of the Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Program, National Center for Infectious Diseases, and before that he was the Associate Director for Emergency Public Health and Science, Division of Emergency and Environmental Health Services, at the National Center for Environmental Health.

For 16 years, he was a Medical Officer on the U.S. Public Health Service Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), serving for 6 years as the Commanding Officer. He has responded to a variety of natural disasters, and he served as the HHS Chief of Medical Operations for the Kosovo refugee response. Dr. Yeskey has participated in international public health capacity building programs, and he provided domestic and international medical support of tactical law enforcement operations.

Dr. Yeskey is board certified in emergency medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his medical degree from USUHS.
