Ellis M. Stanley, Sr.

After retiring in 2007 as General Manager of the City of Los Angeles’ Emergency Preparedness Department, Mr. Stanley joined Dewberry, LLC, in November 2007 as Director of Western Emergency Management Services and opened a west coast office in Los Angeles. 

From March 2008 thru August 2008, Mr. Stanley was Director of DNC Planning for the City & County of Denver, CO. For his efforts, the mayor proclaimed August 29th “Ellis Stanley Day” in Denver.

With more than 33 years of work experience in emergency management, Mr. Stanley serves on the Homeland Security Advisory Council’s Emergency Response Senior Advisory Committee. He was recently appointed as a member of the National Research Council Committee to Review the Department of Homeland Security’s Approach to Risk Analysis.

He is also an instructor for American University for the Senior Crisis Management Seminar, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, and on the faculty of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, teaching meta-leadership.

Mr. Stanley is a member of the boards of directors of the National Institute of Urban Search and Rescue (NIUSR), the Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII), Operation Hope, Inc., and the Greater Los Angeles American Red Cross. He serves on the Board of Advisors to the Homeland Security Leadership Alliance and on the Advisory Board of the Los Angeles Transportation Foundation. He is a board member of the California Forensic Science Institute (CFSI) and serves on the Advisory Board of the Center for Risk and Economic Analysis and Terrorism Events (CREATE) at the University of Southern California.
