Speaker Biography

Diane Lapson is a Vice President of the Independence Plaza North Tenant Association. Independence Plaza is a building complex of several thousand people located 3 city blocks from Ground Zero. She is a co-founder of the 911 Environmental Action group and member of the WTC Residents Coaltion. As a 30 year community activist in lower Manhattan, she helped build the vibrant neighborhood now known as "Tribeca." Ms. Lapson is employed in the Music Publishing industry and has never received any training regarding public emergencies. "You do what you have to do, and you do your best," she has said of her organizing and taking leadership during the weeks following the September 11th terrorist attack, "and you learn as you go along what works and what doesn't." Diane continues to deal with Tribeca's issues as a result of 9/11/01.
