Matthew Watson

Mr. Watson is an analyst for the Center for Biosecurity of UPMC. He also serves as an Associate Editor of the peer-reviewed journal, Biosecurity and Bioterrorism: Biodefense Strategy, Practice, and Science. His research interests include the epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases, immunologic responses to disease, public health preparedness and the response to high impact epidemics and other disasters.

Mr. Watson’s interest and experience in disaster preparedness and response began on an operational level as a paramedic and firefighter. In this capacity, he learned first hand the importance of constantly improving the quality and timeliness of the response to all emergencies, regardless of scale or nature.

Mr. Watson earned a BS in emergency medicine from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006.
