BARDA Announces RFP for H5N1 Vaccine

By Kunal Rambhia, July 28, 2008

On July 17, 2008, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) announced a Request for Proposals (RFP) for an egg-based inactivated monovalent H5N1 vaccine at commercial scale for inclusion in the Strategic National Stockpile.1 The RFP is for a vaccine that uses the “same facilities, systems, equipment, and processes employed for their FDA-licensed seasonal trivalent influenza vaccine” and must use the H5N1 reference strains prescribed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.1

The RFP has a one-year base contract period with the option of 2 one-year extensions. Under the terms of the RFP, 250,000 bulk antigen doses at 15 micrograms per dose must be delivered for the base year. The RFP will be available online beginning July 30, 2008, and proposals are due by August 28, 2008. Multiple contracts may be awarded, and award announcements are anticipated for September 12, 2008.
