About the Biosecurity News in Brief

Introduction: The Biosecurity News in Brief is a daily electronic publication from the Center for Biosecurity of UPMC that is designed to keep readers current on news, events, and important developments related to biosecurity and biodefense. To assemble the Biosecurity News in Brief each day, the Center’s analysts  review and cull from a broad array of reputable national and international news outlets, public- and private-sector reports, peer-reviewed journals, and respected blogs and websites. Our goal is to cover the now expansive landscape of issues, disciplines, systems, and  schools of thought that shape and influence 21st century biosecurity. Toward that end, we review and may include links to news, reports, and other coverage of developments in the following broad areas:

  • Biological Agents and Epidemic Diseases
  • Business and Biosecurity
  • Countermeasures
  • Community Engagement
  • Global Health and Biosecurity
  • Government Affairs
  • Health Information Technology
  • Hospital Preparedness and Response
  • National Security
  • Pandemic and Avian Influenza
  • Public Health Preparedness and Response
  • Science and Biosecurity
  • Other 21st Century Threats
